Help - I need Low Carb Indian Recipes - prob. with this site

Postby a bocho on Mon Jan 10, 2005 10:00 pm

I am Indian & love Indian food. There are a few recipes on this site for low carb Indian food, such as curries. Most Indian food is eaten with either rice or some type of flat bread, so the major problem is what do you eat them with ??? Therefore the recipes on this site don't make sense !!!

I'd apprecite it if someone could please help me & other Indian food lovers.

roti

Postby alsharifa on Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:08 pm

i've in the past used bake mixes to try to make roti. it's not as delicious as the real thing. since gram flour is made from chickpeas it's also lower carb than white flour.

personally when i make bindi masala, etc we eat it with low carb tortillas.

rice substitute

instead of eating rice with your curries, try boiling a cauliflower until soft and mashing it up, fairly mild taste and it helps soak up all that lovely sauce.

Roti substitue

Postby carbaholic on Tue Apr 26, 2005 3:42 am

It is unfortunate that we can't buy much low carb substitute for Indian snacks/foods. However, I have found that you can use Low Carb Tortilla in the place of roti. You can get those at most grocery stores. I know it is not the same as having rice, and real roti, but this is pretty darn close.

Hope this helps.

Snack :0ne glass lemon juice with salt and pepper. Some peanuts ..abt 1 Tb spoon.

Lunch :Tikka Marinated chicken pan fried or Tuna cooked in little onion green chilies and garlic and some garam masala.Eat the above by filling it in a lowcarb tortilla and add some onions for extra crunch. Also try Spinach fried with garlic. This adds extra fiber.

Evening Snack: Try low carb energy bar,Drink Protine snake with water .I drink one glass of Metamusile orange flavour...helps with extra fiber.

Dinner:Slice up one avacado and ass 3slices onion and 3 slices tomato ,add some chillies.Place it inside a tortilla and sprinkle with celanteo salt and pepper. This is really good and makes u feel good.

Dessert:After each meal try to eat 3 or four strawberries.Helps ur sweet tooth.
