Did anyone of you undergo lab tests before going on this die

Postby Lipton on Sat Aug 30, 2003 8:41 pm

I have been doing some reaserch into low carb diets and finally I think I know enough to start one. However I'm planning to check my HDL LDL and blood sugar levels on monthly basis in order to see if anything changes.

Yep, I had a full blood lipid profile before I started and one month later. Great results with a major drop in triglycerides and a very significant improvement in total cholesterol.
You might also want to consider having your thyroid hormone levels checked as well as a screening for liver or kidney problems before starting.
Find a competent physician who is familiar with carb controlled diets and seek his/her counsel regularly.
One note, your insurance company may not want to pay for more than one blood lipid panel every six months, even if you do have hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol/triglyceriedes), unless your physician can document a medically sound reason for more frequent testing.
