You stated that you just started 3 days ago. This is normal (with the eception of the nausea). I don't know what diet you are following, but they're all basically the same with minor variations, but ALL authors say this is to be expected for the first week or two. This is because your boy is used to burning carbws for fuel. It takes a week or so for it to cut over to fat burning for fuel Just stay with it. You will find that after this breakin period, you will have lots of energy. Also, make sure you are taking some vitamins and some omega 3 supps if you aren't getting them from your diet.

I'm just the opposite, when I first started dieting, I had lots of energy, now I'm tired all the time. I'm lucky to make it to 10pm at night before falling asleep. I have been dieting for a couple of months now. I just want my energy back.
start weight 168
current weight 150
goal weight 140

still trucking along on the low carb diet, but not following atkins all the way, still looking for tips

Tired all the time

Postby Doc@lowcarbforlife.net on Mon Apr 26, 2004 2:34 pm

Dieting and being tired all the time are synonymous with mild states of starvation. The human body actually needs about 10g of carbohdrate per hour, about 240g/day, just to maintain the cellular membranes of all the body's organs and tissues sparing the fat tissues.
Well, we're trying to reduce our tissue mass essentially, so we naturally reduce our intake of carbohydrates to a number much lower than 240g/day. Aside from our stomach grumbling at it's new empty state there is one much more important organ which is upset with our diet mode, the brain. The brain and central nervous system use glucose as it's source of energy. Glucose is the very core molecule of the evil carbohydrate we are all trying to avoid. The brain and central nervous system require 40g/day of glucose or 40g/day of carbohydrate to maintain cellular stability. I don't think any of us are willingly trying to reduce the size of our central nervous system so I offer this advice. Feed your brain! Give the most important organ of your body what it wants, 40g of glucose/carbohydrate per day. I know this breaks every rule Dr. Adkins ever taught you but trust me, if you satisfy your brain it will believe you are full. The brain is selfish. It will uptake any and all carbohydrates you take in until it gets it's 40g requirement then it will allow the rest of the body's tissues to divide up any excess there might be.
Now, get these 40g's wisely! Consume only complex carbohydrates to satisfy this need, such as, deep green and leafy vegetables. These carbohydrates are good for you and won't keep you fat, but they will keep you energized! If you combine this advice with the rest of the advice from Dr. Adkins you will continue to lose weight, not as quickly, but at least more comfortably and certainly healthier.

Best regards,

Ok just a few questions,,, do you drink your water? are you taking your vitamins and are you eating on a regular basis including your small salads??? I have found people that say oh atkins will make you sick,,, ummm well so will every other diet in the world if you don't follow directions,,,, another think to keep in mind is every body is different, if the tiredness persists and you are following directions completely,,, then maybe you could try adding just a few carbs a day to see if it helps,,, lets face it, if your feeling miserable then your not going to stick to this change in eating,,, success is the key,,, and feeling good about it is what makes you successful,,, don't let anyone tell you being tired all the time is ok,,, it's not and if your as tired as your describing have some blood tests done,,, remember if your burning a lot of fat because of your lifestyle you may need a few more carbs to keep going at that pace,,, I hope it works out for you

To address Doc’s post, yes your body needs fuel but that’s one of the beauties of Protein. Your body can synthesize glucose from protein! We can NOT synthesize protein however. That’s why we die without protein and can live nicely (as long as we get the proper vitamin and mineral supplements) without carbohydrates, be they complex or simple. They all still wined up as glucose in your blood.

As to the tired, I agree with the other posts and found for my self that taking 300 milligrams of potassium per day and drinking lots of water took care of the problem.
